This includes commercial health insurance and public health care programs such as Medical Assistance and MinnesotaCare.

Before, during and after your visit

We will bill your insurance for you, but you can help make the process go smoothly by knowing what to expect before, during, and after your visit, and by arriving for your visit prepared.

We recommend that you contact your insurance company to confirm that they will cover services received at Hennepin Healthcare. Each patient's health plan is unique. Please make sure that you understand your benefits, what services are not covered by your plan, and if referrals and authorizations are required. Knowing your out-of-pocket expense prior to your visit will allow us to assist you with a payment plan, if necessary.

You have the right to discuss costs for services and treatment options with us before you receive them. You can obtain a price estimate of cost for services by calling the Pricing Information line at 612-873-9500.

Concerned about paying your bill?

If you anticipate any problems paying your bill, please contact a financial counselor at 612-873-2767 to discuss financial assistance programs that may be available to you. Payment plans are also available by calling 1-800-495-4915.

Accurate Information
You will be asked to present your current insurance card when you register or check in for your visit, as well as your photo identification. We must have accurate personal and insurance information in order to process your bill correctly and in a timely manner.

Co-Payment
If your insurance company requires a co-payment(s), you will be asked to pay it on the day you receive services.

We will promptly bill your insurance plan for you. Once they have processed your claim, we will send you a statement showing your payment responsibility. Most insurance companies require patients to pay a portion of the cost, including any deductibles or non-covered services. Payment is due within 30 days.

Contact your insurance company prior to your visit if you have concerns about what your out-of-pocket payment responsibility will be after your insurance payment.
