What is a lung nodule?

A lung nodule is an abnormality in the lung that often has no symptoms. They are small and round or oval-shaped. Nodules can vary in size and location in the lung. Nodules may develop in one lung or both. Most lung nodules are not cancerous. Rarely, pulmonary nodules are a sign of lung cancer. Pulmonary nodules are very common and many are discovered during routine scans or X-rays.
