About Us

Huntington's disease (HD) is an inherited disease that causes the progressive breakdown and loss of nerve cells in the brain, leading to symptoms that include involuntary movements (chorea), loss of coordination, changes in thinking and memory (dementia) and changes in mood and behavior.

The Huntington's Disease Clinic was established through the individual efforts of Sally Hogan, a spouse and mother of HD-affected individuals, and Dr. Milton Ettinger, the late Chief of Neurology. The clinic has cared for hundreds of patients and families touched by HD over the past 40 years.

The multidisciplinary HD team of care providers includes neurologists, rehabilitation therapists (physical, occupational, speech and nutrition therapists), social work services, genetic and psychological counseling, neuropsychology, nursing and research. In addition to providing patient and family care, clinic staff team with patients and families on a variety of clinical research activities. Team members also support Hennepin Healthcare's mission as a teaching hospital, educating a variety of students and fellows from many health discipines about HD through clinical experiences.

The Huntington's Disease Clinic is located within the Neurology Clinic.
