8th Street Construction

Starting this upcoming Monday, May 11, there will be a series of road closures along 8th street that will impact patient and staff access to the front access of the Clinic & Specialty Center and Red Emergency entrance. The closures will happen in phases to try and limit the inconvenience to patients and visitors.

During roadway reconstruction work, Chicago Avenue will be CLOSED between 8th Street and 9th Street. Park Avenue will also be reduced to two lanes during peak hours (6 am to 9 am) and local access will be maintained at all times on 8th Street or on adjacent streets. See the below maps for details.

Schedule of construction:

Phase 1 (May 11-June 7):

Construction in front of the Clinic & Specialty Center and blocking the west side of Chicago Ave. Vehicles will be able to travel west on Chicago Ave. The driveway will still be accessible but will temporarily have gravel.

The driveway will be closed Friday, May 22nd – Monday, May 25th, over Memorial Day weekend. Staff and patients will still be able to access the Clinic & Specialty Center by parking in the ramp for clinic visits or go to the pharmacy.

Phase 2 (May 11-June 7):

Construction in front of the Red Emergency entrance and blocking east side of Chicago Ave. Vehicles will not be able to travel east on Chicago Ave from 8th Street. Alternative temporary surfacing of the driveway will be used in front of the ER so that there continues to be 24/7 access to the ER.

Phase 3 (July 13-July 24):

Construction blocking 8th street at Park Ave blocking traffic heading south. Any vehicles traveling south on 8th street will be detoured at Park Ave.

Driving and Parking:

There will be detours set up so that patients, staff, and emergency vehicles will be diverted according to where they need to go. Signs along the street will show where traffic should detour to. See the attached diagrams for detouring information.

Metro Transit Bus Route Changes:

During roadway reconstruction work between Park Avenue and Chicago Avenue, Metro Transit service on 8th Street will be rerouted from 5th Avenue to adjacent streets. Metro Transit service on Chicago Avenue will also be rerouted to adjacent streets to facilitate the intersection work that will be occurring at 8th Street and Chicago Avenue. Short-term bus stop closures and/or temporary bus stop relocations may also occur as crews complete final repairs and landscaping work around the Bus Rapid Transit stations on 8th Street. Please refer to the Metro Transit detour routes and postings at bus stops for alternate bus stop locations.
