Interpreter Services
Our interpreters
Interpreter Services provides comprehensive language services across the continuum of the patient’s medical care to ensure meaningful communication access. Language services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and are free of charge. The healthcare interpreters provide professional, culturally competent language interpretation. Language Services including American Sign Language are available throughout the Hennepin Healthcare System’s inpatient areas and outpatient clinics – including primary and specialty care, surgical services, the emergency department, and all service areas. Interpreter Services also provides auxiliary aids, remote video interpretation, assistive listening devices, and computer-assisted real-time transcription to ensure effective communication, including a qualified in-person sign language interpreter.
Our Healthcare Interpreters
Our amazing 90+ language interpreters are part of one of the largest hospital interpreter programs in the country. They provide language interpretation in person, by telephone, and via video.
Phone Interpretation
Over-the-Phone interpretation is an on-demand service providing prompt equitable language services to our non-English speaking patients in over 240 languages. This technology offers additional support when in-person or video interpreters are not available.
Video Remote Interpretation
Video remote interpretation is an on-demand service providing prompt equitable language services to our non-English speaking patients in over 70 languages. This technology offers additional support when in-person or face-to-face interpreters are not available. Video interpreters are available via mobile video units on carts throughout the healthcare system.
