Dr. David Hilden elected Vice President of Medical Affairs

dr david hilden, Dr. David Hilden, elected Vice President of Medical Affairs, Physician Leadership and Development Committee, physician leader elected vp of medical affairsDr. David Hilden has been selected by his peers to represent the medical staff at Hennepin Healthcare in filling the role Vice President of Medical Affairs (VPMA). This role was formerly held by Dr. John Cumming who stepped down and is now as interim CEO.

The Physician Leadership and Development Committee recommended candidates for the VPMA role to the Medical Executive Committee, who selected Dr. Hilden. He was confirmed by the Hennepin Healthcare System, Inc. (HHS) Board Executive Committee on June 28, 2019.

“There is no place I would rather practice medicine than Hennepin and I am humbled to represent a medical staff of incredibly talented and committed colleagues,” said Dr. Hilden. “I hope to follow previous physician leaders in fostering collegiality, purpose, and most of all a collective sense of joy in our professional lives.  I’m eager to get started!”

Dr. Hilden has been the Director of the Division of Hospital Medicine at Hennepin Healthcare since 2012 and was Interim Chief of the Department of Medicine in 2017. He began his career as an electrical engineer before receiving his medical degree from the University of Minnesota Medical School in 2000. He did Internal Medicine residency training at HHS/HCMC from 2000-2003 and has an active clinical practice in acute hospital care and primary care at Hennepin since 2003.

Dr. Hilden is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Minnesota Medical School and holds a Master of Public Health from the University of Minnesota in Health Care Leadership and Policy.  He is an active medical educator of students and residents and a former Associate Program Director at Hennepin Healthcare.

dr hilden in promotion for healthy matters, Dr. David Hilden, elected Vice President of Medical Affairs, Physician Leadership and Development Committee, physician leader elected vp of medical affairsHe is the Governor of the Minnesota Chapter of the American College of Physicians and a member of ACP Health and Public Policy Committee which is the primary policy-making committee for the nation’s largest specialty physician organization.  He was the ACP Minnesota Chapter Laureate Award recipient in 2017 and the Volunteerism and Community Service Award recipient in 2014.  In 2010 he was awarded the Physician Communicator of the Year Award by the Minnesota Medical Association.  He regularly speaks to medical educators and the public on healthcare issues locally, nationally, and internationally.

Dr. Hilden is the host of Healthy Matters, a weekly live radio broadcast on WCCO 830 radio and WCCORADIO.COM which is currently in its 11th year of broadcasting. He has two young adult children and lives with his wife in Minneapolis.
