Hennepin Healthcare celebrates breaking of Ramadan fast on Thursday, March 28

On Thursday, March 28, the Health Equity Department and Muslim Collective at Hennepin Healthcare will present a program and discussion surrounding the importance of Ramadan, followed by a prayer and meal served at sundown (Iftar). This event will take place in the Stillman Conference Room at Hennepin Healthcare’s Clinic and Specialty Center located at 715 S. 8th St., Minneapolis, 55404 (across the street from the Emergency Department).

More than 60 people attended Iftar last year’s Iftar, a meal that marks the end of the fast for the day eaten at sundown during Ramadan. The evening included a program and discussion surrounding the importance of Ramadan and the purpose of fasting led by Dr. Ghazala Usman, Chiropractor in Integrative Health. The Stillman Conference Room will again be decorated for the occasion with blue and gold Ramadan Mubarak-themed moons, lanterns and stars along with banners and tablecloths greeting guests with, “Ramadan Mubarak.”

Ifrah H. Noor, Health Equity Somali Cultural Navigator, shared: “Observing Ramadan is one of the five pillars of Islam and is an important religious practice for Muslims around the world. It involves fasting, engaging in spiritual reflection, and prayer. Last year’s Iftar celebration event was a huge success. I am so honored to be part of the Muslim Collective Leadership team and to be hosting another Iftar celebration event at Hennepin Healthcare. This celebration brings together employees of all backgrounds to celebrate and learn about the traditions and customs of Ramadan.”
