Youth dive into medical knowledge at Youth with Stethoscopes summits

Our Talent Garden wrapped up the year with two Youth Summits. Latine Youth with Stethoscopes was held on Nov. 5 with 74 youth in attendance. Black Men with Stethoscopes was held on Dec. 3 with 40 youth in attendance.
The youth, ages 12-18, engaged with many Hennepin Healthcare professionals and experienced realistic medical simulations: baby deliveries, blood draws, and intubated mannequins. They filled cavities, learned how to use a stethoscope, met with a panel of health professionals, and learned about the pathways and opportunities in healthcare. Participants took home a booklet of information about health careers, a stethoscope, and a white coat personalized with their names.
By creating access to information and opportunities for hands on learning for students, the Talent Garden program aims to connect the youth of color to prospective careers in healthcare. Look forward to more Youth Summits in 2023!
Registration for the upcoming Black Women with Stethoscopes on Saturday, Feb. 18 is open!
