Program Overview

Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is an in-office treatment for depression. TMS is designated for the treatment of Major Depressive Disorder in adult patients who have failed to receive adequate improvement from prior antidepressant medication. TMS does not require any anesthesia or sedation and has no systemic side effects or adverse effects on cognition or sleep.
TMS helps activate the natural function of the brain’s neurotransmitters using a non-invasive magnetic field similar to that of an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging). Hennepin Healthcare uses the NeuroStar TMS therapy system.
