Dr. Brotherson originates from Trinidad in the Caribbean. She is a graduate of the University of Maryland School of Medicine (1992) and the University of Maryland family medicine residency training program (1995). She joined the Department of Family Medicine at Hennepin County Medical Center as a faculty physician in 2002, after seven years of private practice. She divides her time between patient care and teaching. She is the director of the Family Medicine Residency Training Program. Her special patient care interests are asthma and allergy care in children and adults, curriculum development and addressing health disparities among minority populations.
She is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine, is a fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians, and is an Assistant Professor of Family Medicine and Community Health at the University of Minnesota School of Medicine.
