Advocacy is important to Hennepin Healthcare

Participating in advocacy and public policy discussions impact the health of our community

As the safety net health system of Minnesota, participating in advocacy and public policy discussions that impact the health of our community yields more representative policies that reduce costly and preventable health disparities.

Elected officials and public policy shape our health ecosystem, influencing the accessibility of comprehensive health care, secure housing, nutritious food, quality education, and more.

2024 Election DatesWhy Elections Matter to HHS
Promoting voter engagement and higher voter participation yields more representative public policies that can reduce costly and preventable health disparities. Elected officials and public policy shape our health ecosystem, influencing the accessibility of comprehensive health care, secure housing, nutritious food, quality education, and more.

Overwhelmingly, people of color, people with disabilities, low-income Americans, the uninsured, and young people are those most likely to be unregistered and to experience barriers to voter registration, creating:

    • Health inequities
    • Less representative government
    • Less inclusive health-related public policy
What you can do

What you can do

Help voting-eligible people overcome barriers to the ballot and further health-advancing public policy by promoting comprehensive, nonpartisan voter engagement through:

  • Voter education
  • Voter mobilization
  • Voter registration
    • Help register patients to vote using a Vot-ER badge: We partner with a nonpartisan voter registration platform to distribute badges that can help register patients in the hospital or clinic. Don’t have one? Contact [email protected] and we will get one to you!
What our office does

What our office does

The advocacy and public policy office advocates for changes in policy on behalf of Hennepin Healthcare System services, staff, and patients at the county, state, and federal levels of government. We lead, support, and monitor various policy proposals and regulatory and administrative rules that would impact our health system.

We support our colleagues to engage with elected officials on behalf of the Hennepin Healthcare System policy priorities and proposals that affect our hospital and patients.
