She told Ivy, 'Ivy, I will do everything I can with my team to make sure you dance down the aisle on your wedding day.'
When my daughter, Ivy was 12 she was hit by a car while riding her bike and suffered traumatic injury to her right leg. Recovery at Hennepin Healthcare saw good days and bad days and was lengthy and tricky. Fast forward five years, and Ivy is thriving.
Ivy is a senior at Anoka High School and thriving as the homecoming queen, choir secretary, 3-year academic award winner, is in the National Honor Society as well as other awards and achievements, such as the Leadership Academy, which addresses city council, and praise and worship leader and children’s story coordinator in our church. She is also forming a black student union in her school and has received the racial equality allies & leaders award.
Dr. Stacene Maroushek was Ivy’s pediatrician. She told Ivy, ‘Ivy, I will do everything I can with my team to make sure you dance down the aisle on your wedding day.’ That statement meant a lot to us. We saw light at the end of the tunnel.
