Carmelita Nelson, RN, BSN, CNN, CDE

Carmelita is a Certified Nephrology Nurse and Certified Diabetes Educator. She provides diabetes education and medication management for Type 1 and Type 2 and cares for gestational and pre-diabetes patients, both individually and in group settings.

She enjoys working with patients with diabetes and kidney failure, including patients who have received kidney transplantation. She has worked as a renal educator and as an inpatient diabetes educator at Hennepin Healthcare for over 16 years, providing diabetes education and renal education to patients that are admitted to the hospital as well as staff development in diabetes and renal care.

She spends long working vacations every other year on medical-surgical missions with 70-90 International Medical and paramedical groups in the Philippines. She also helps educate patients, families, nursing and medical students on Diabetes and Renal issues.
