Renal Pathology Service Hours
Monday – Friday, 5:30 am – 5 pm
For more than 40 years, we have partnered with doctors from across the United States to provide more effective kidney disease care to patients. In keeping with our mission of "Dedicated Support, Definitive Results," we are available 24/7 and offer quality, timely interpretations of patient biopsies. Results are available in 24 hours so your time isn't spent waiting on biopsy results – but acting on them.
In 1995, our physicians formed the Chronic Disease Research Group (CDRG) to formalize investigations into public health issues related to chronic illness and treatment. Under a multimillion-dollar contract with the National Institutes of Health (NIH), CDRG now serves as the Coordinating Center and Cardiovascular Disease Special Studies Center for the US Renal Data System (USRDS). Located within the HCMC complex, the USRDS is challenged with maintaining the database for all End-stage Renal Disease (ESRD) statistics and information throughout the United States.

Tests Performed
We provide expert interpretation of native and transplant kidney biopsy specimens using:
- light microscopy
- immunofluorescence
- electron microscopy
The results of these studies are integrated with the clinical presentation to provide a full and final interpretation of the patient’s renal disorder.
Reporting
Initial test results are usually available within 24 hours. Our pathologists provide consultation on all specimens by telephone.
Formal reports can be accessed through Aperio, our digital pathology site that we use to digitize and manage our slides. They can also be e-mailed, faxed, or mailed. Results from light microscopy and immunofluorescence tests are usually available within 1 day, with rush processing on request. Results from electron microscopy tests are typically available within 2 days.
