Renal Pathology Service Hours
Monday – Friday, 5:30 am – 5 pm
Saturdays, 6 am – 12 pm
For more than 40 years, we have partnered with doctors from across the United States to provide more effective kidney disease care to patients. In keeping with our mission of "Dedicated Support, Definitive Results," we are available 24/7 and offer quality, timely interpretations of patient biopsies. Results are available in 24 hours so your time isn't spent waiting on biopsy results – but acting on them.
In 1995, our physicians formed the Chronic Disease Research Group (CDRG) to formalize investigations into public health issues related to chronic illness and treatment. Under a multimillion-dollar contract with the National Institutes of Health (NIH), CDRG now serves as the Coordinating Center and Cardiovascular Disease Special Studies Center for the US Renal Data System (USRDS). Located within the HCMC complex, the USRDS is challenged with maintaining the database for all End-stage Renal Disease (ESRD) statistics and information throughout the United States.
Renal Pathology Services
The Renal Pathology Service at Hennepin Healthcare provides complete laboratory services to support physicians in the diagnosis and management of kidney disease. To us, a complete set of services doesn’t just mean that we offer a full test menu and employ cutting-edge equipment and methodology.
It also means that we establish strong relationships with our clients through exceptional service and availability, as well as quick turnaround and easy access to results. Led by Gretchen S. Crary, MD, MBA, and a team of board-certified pathologists with experience and expertise in renal pathology, the Renal Pathology Service at Hennepin Healthcare is marked by our unmatched attention to detail, which ensures that each diagnosis is thorough and accurate. Look for dedicated support and definitive results from the organization that has been at the forefront of kidney disease for more than 40 years.
We provide expert interpretation of native and transplant kidney biopsy specimens using:
- light microscopy
- electron microscopy
The results of these studies are integrated with the clinical presentation to provide a full and final interpretation of the patient’s renal disorder.
Initial test results are usually available within 24 hours. Our pathologists provide consultation on all specimens by telephone.
Formal reports can be accessed through Aperio, our digital pathology site that we use to digitize and manage our slides. They can also be e-mailed, faxed, or mailed. Results from light microscopy and immunofluorescence tests are usually available within 1 day, with rush processing on request. Results from electron microscopy tests are typically available within 2 days.
