Celebrating ten years of breast cancer survivors
On Saturday, October 6th, almost 200 Hennepin Healthcare breast cancer patients, their friends and families and volunteers from the Comprehensive Cancer Center came together for the 10th annual Breast Cancer Survivors Celebration. Every year our clinic staff recognize women and men for their strength and commitment to fight and heal from breast cancer. We held the event in our new Clinic & Specialty Center‘s Stillman Education Room and spilled out into the atrium. Children and guests decorated pumpkins and won prizes at the fish pond. Patients and family visited information tables from our community supporters, including the African American Breast Cancer Alliance, Firefly Sisterhood, Livestrong, the American Cancer Society and Open Arms of Minnesota, just to name a few. Lunch was served and we had a raffle – all patients won a gift! This year’s celebration has been our biggest yet and we can’t wait for next year.
We also had the opportunity to introduce the new Wanzek Family Breast Care Center. The Wanzek family has generously endowed our breast center. The Center provides comprehensive breast care, up to and including breast cancer. Services include:
- Medical oncology
- Radiation oncology
- A nurse navigator
- Social services
- and much more!
The Breast Navigator can help breast cancer patients in their journey – from diagnosis to treatment, to getting help for financial and emotional needs, family support, nutrition, survivorship and other needs. The Wanzek Family Breast Care Center is also nationally certified by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers, meaning we have the highest standards of care for our breast patients.
Thank you to everyone who made this wonderful event possible. If you have questions or need breast care, call our Comprehensive Cancer Center at 612-873-6369 and ask for the Breast Navigator.
